 MCC Highlassies Softball Sweep Trinity Valley

The McLennan Highlassies swept today’s doubleheader with Trinity Valley at Bosque River Ballpark.

MCC shut out the Lady Cardinals in the first game 5-0.

The Highlassies began the scoring with two runs in the first. Shelby Tinklepaugh singled and scored on a double by Sierra Smith. Smith then scored on a single by Ashliegh McLean.

MCC added one run in the second as Addison Staley singled, stole second and scored on a double by Abi Tammen.

The Highlassies final two runs of the first game came in the third inning. Smith led off with a single, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a triple by McLean. McLean then scored on a sacrifice fly by Abby Weatherby

MCC run-ruled Trinity Valley in the night cap, 14-6 in five innings.

The Highlassies got on the board first with four runs in the bottom of the second. Katherine Grable led off with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Maria Vicinais drew a walk and Addison Staley followed with a single, scoring Gable. Emily Burch then singled to load the bases. Tammen cleared the bases with a triple, scoring Vicinais, Staley and Burch.

Trinity Valley tied the game with four runs in the top of the third. Kelsey Tucker led off with a walk, Keanna Winkfield reached on a bunt and Nichole Gross singled to load the bases. Loren McCormick followed with a double, clearing the bases. McCormick then scored on a double by Randi Smith.

The Highlassies added two runs in the bottom of the third. Sierra Smith drew a base on balls and Briane Wesley doubled. Miranda Villarreal singled, scoring Smith and advancing Wesley to third. Wesley then scored on a passed ball.

MCC increased their lead with two more runs in the fourth. Tinklepaugh reached on a Lady Cardinal error and Grable singled. Wesley followed with a single to score Tinklepaugh. Maria Vicinais and Villarreal received back-to-back walks, bringing Grable in to score.

Trinity Valley’s final two runs came in the top of the fifth. McCormick singled and stole second. Pinch hitter Terri Martinez followed with a triple, scoring McCormick. Martinez then scored on an MCC error.

The Highlassies put the game away with six runs in the fifth. Burch led off with a double and stole third. Tammen followed with a single to score Burch. Tinklepaugh walked and advanced to second on a passed ball that allowed Tammen to score. Sierra Smith drew a walk. Grable then doubled to score Tinklepaugh. Smith and Grable scored on a double by Vicinais. Staley singled and Vicinais scored on a single by Burch.

Ashliegh McLean and Denise Arnold picked up the wins for the Highlassies.

MCC returns to action this weekend at the Galveston Tournament.
