 MCC Highlassies Top Southwestern Christian, Highlanders Fall

The McLennan Highlassies moved to 7-2 in conference play as they defeated the Southwestern Christian Lady Rams 76-55 tonight at The Highlands.

MCC built a five-point lead early in the half but Southwest Christian rallied back, taking a five-point lead of their own with just over five minutes to play in the first half. The Highlassies ended the half on a 19-2 run to hold the 32-20 advantage at the break.

The Lady Rams cut the lead to six with 16 minutes left on the clock but MCC responded with a 19-0 run in the next six minutes to break the game open. The Highlassies led by as many as 27 down the stretch as they cruised to the victory.

Katie Pavlik led MCC with 20 points and Ashley Olvera scored 18. Kanisha Clark and Ali Trojacek rounded out the Highlassies in double figures with 12 and 11, respectively.

In men’s action, the McLennan Highlanders fell to the Southwestern Christian Rams 85-67.

MCC started off slow, allowing Southwestern Christian to take a double digit lead with 13:18 to go in the first half. The Rams led 37-20 at the break. The Highlanders were unable to recover from the deficit in the second half.

With the loss, the Highlanders fall to 21-3 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

Nafis Richardson had points for the MCC and T. J. Johnson scored 13. Taylor Smith added 10.

The Highlassies return to action on Saturday, traveling to Cisco for a 2 p.m. contest. The Highlanders will return to action one week from tonight at Collin County.
