 MCC Highlanders Beat Collin, Highlassies Fall

The McLennan Highlanders moved to 2-0 in conference play as they defeated the Collin Cougars 67-54 tonight at The Highlands.

The game was tit-for-tat with the teams tied at 23 with 1:32 to go in the first half. But the Highlanders ended the half on a 6-0 run to take the 29-23 lead at the break. MCC opened the second half on a 4-0 run to take the first double digit lead of the contest. Collin cut the lead to six several times down the stretch but were unable to pull any closer. Tre Nichols and Nafis Richardson led MCC with 16 points each. Taylor Smith added 10.

In women’s action, the McLennan Highlassies fell to the Collin Lady Cougar 79-53. The Highlassies kept the game close until midway through the first half. Collin built a five-point lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the half. The Lady Cougars exploded with 23-3 run in the next seven minutes to break the game open and the Highlassies were unable to recover. Ashley Olvera led MCC with 13 points. Kiara Tate added 11.

MCC returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Ranger for the women’s game at 2 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 4 p.m.
