A&M
Consolidated Tigers
Coach: Jim Slaughter
2009 Record: 7-4, 6-1
2009 Playoff schedule/scores:
L 38-26 to Tyler Lee in the Bi-district
round
Key Players:
RB Chris Nutall (58, 175, 4.4)
RB Clint Banks (510, 215, 4.6)
Both Nutall and Banks
eclipsed the 1,000 yd mark last year and
are poised to do the same this year with
Alex Wilson, Dalton Downey, and Cade
Shimek returning to the offensive line.
Two question marks do remain for the
Tigers however: With only 4 returning
defensive starters who going to step up,
and who will lead the offense with
Justin Brendon and Jacob Bronowski
battling for the starting Quarterback
job? |

Belton Tigers
Coach: Rodney Southern
2009 Record: 10-2, 6-1
2009 Playoff
schedule/scores:
W 45-38 over Horn in Bi-District Round
L 24-14 to South Garland in Area Round
Key Players:
QB David Ash (62, 217, 4.7)
WR Adrian Henderson (60, 180, 4.6)
LB Tyler Vail (60, 235, 4.9)
NG Stephen Honeywood (510 260)
If Ash can improve on his
numbers from 09(143-247, 1973 yds, 23
TDs) Belton would truly challenge for
the District Title. With Vail and
Honeywood anchoring a defense its going
to be tough to move the chains against
The Tigers. Belton is arguably the
deepest team in 12-5A on both sides of
the ball. |

Copperas
Cove Bulldawgs
Coach: Jack Welch
2009 Record: 8-3, 5-2
2009 Playoff
schedule/scores:
L 49-21 to Tyler in Bi-District Round
Key Players:
DL Trevor Valdez (64, 255, 5.0)
DB Brandon Durant (61, 185, 4.4)
OL Cody Elenz (65, 283, 5.2)
RB Will Randolph (59, 175, 4.5)
The strength of the Dawgs
continues to be their defense. Lead by
Valdez(42 tackles, 3 sacks) and
Durant(143 tackles, 2 INTs) they are a
viable contender for the District crown.
Austin Greene will take over under
center after a 9-1 record as the JV
starter. |

Bryan Vikings
Coach: Bob Bellard
2009 Record: 5-6, 4-3
2009 Playoff
schedule/scores:
L 40-0 to DeSoto in Bi-District Round
Key Players:
RB Nathan Jones (510, 185, 4.5)
WR/S Joseph Bryant (64, 205, 4.6)
Adding Bryant to the both
sides off the ball will be key to a
defense that struggled last year.
Bryants 64 frame provides plenty of
length to the secondary. With an
improved defense and Jones, who averaged
over 8 yards a carry last year, the
Vikes might be the sleeper of 12-5A. |
|
 |
Ellison Eagles
Coach: Buddy McBryde
2009 Record: 4-6, 2-5
Key Players:
RB David Cobb (60, 205, 4.5)
FB Devon Hocutt (60, 257, 4.6)
DT Charles Jones (60, 235)
DT Darius Williams (60 258)
Possibly the fastest team
in 12-5A. Will need to improve on a
defense that struggled mightily when
district play started. The Eagles
should be stingy against the run and
will have an experience backfield that
should get plenty of attention from
college coaches this year. Hocutt has
already pledged out to Texas Tech. |

Harker Heights Knights
Coach: Mike Mullins
2009 Record: 2-8, 2-5
Key Players:
FS Daevon Brown (57, 170, 4.5)
LB Tyler Babb (62, 220, 4.9)
RB Deandre Jones (60, 180, 4.5)
LB Gerald Warner (60, 200, 4.5)
Coach Mike Mullins is no
stranger to tough districts which makes
the Knights a very intriguing team to
watch this season. Mullins has made
some moves which could prove to be key
to the Knights growth in his second
year, most notably moving Brandon
Bullock from quarterback to wide
receiver and handing the reigns to Greg
Haynes. |

 |
Temple Wildcats
Coach: Bryce Monsen
2009 Record: 4-6, 3-4
Key Players:
DE DeVante Daniels (62, 238, 4.9)
QB Javiah Amos (511, 165, 4.7)
NG Jesus Rodriguez (58,
247, 5.0)
WR Robert Benford (55, 145, 4.6)
The headline for the
Wildcats this year will be Life After
Lache. With Seadstrunk graduated and
only 2 offensive starters returning, the
Wildcats have a tough road ahead.
Fullback Marquette Wilson, running back
Ronnie Chapman, and Amos will have to
shoulder the load. It will definitely
be a different look this year for
Temple. The only place to go is up
after a disappointing 2009 campaign.
Although the Wildcats had one the best
running backs in the nation, they failed
miserably on the field. and on National
Television. |

Shoemaker Grey Wolves
Coach: Ken Gray
2009 Record: 0-10, 0-7
Key Players:
WR Vincent Fuller (59, 180)
WR Darrien Nicholas (59, 170)
DB Richard Rooks (59, 170)
LB Sheldon Brown (59, 170)
Injuries plagued this
team from the start last year. 2010
however, should provide some hope for
the Wolves in 2 areas at least.
Quarterback Jammie Blunt gained some
valuable experience last year and hell
have plenty of talent down field. The
future of the running game starts in
2010 also with sophomore Johnny
Jefferson stepping up to Varsity. |
